Abraham Lincoln was the President before, during and even a little after the civil war. He delivered many famous acts including but not limited to the Emancapation Proclamation, which effectively freeing all the slaves in the confederate states. He was one of the main reason the union stayed in contact, he brought it back together after the war. For his strong will I give him a grade of an A.
The goals of Abe lincoln were to keep the union intact. As he said the south did not have any heavenly sent message stating that they had to dismantle the union, but that he did have a message saying that he had to do everything in his power to preserve it. He did just that. When the shot the first shots at fort sumter, Lincoln called together 75,000 troops to fight for the union. He also gave the Emancapation Proclamation which freed all the slaves. Also Lincoln set out a new precedent for the country during the Gettysburg Address when he said the famous words "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
Lincoln had a very good relationship, because they did everything that he wanted, because they were not in session. In many ways it was good that congress was not in session because he was able to make decisions without there approval. He made many decisions that in the long run proved very beneficial to America.
I would have to say the most positive outcome would have to be the emancipation proclamation and in general everything he did for the union. The emancipation proclamation freed all the slaves, that was a brilliant thing to do because it kept the moral side of the equation and effectively kept the foreign aid away from the south. Also this effectively ended slavery in the United States which was the first step towards equality. Also during the Gettysburg address he set the precedent for what government should be from here on in. Also the steps that he started to take before his untimely assasination were important for the regrowth and reconstruction of America.
One of the decisions that Lincoln made that greatly affected the nation later was the emancipation proclamation. This ended Slavery and also helped the union win the Civil war. This was the first step towards equality in America. After this congress started implementing new amendments and new rights for african americans and women.
I would have to say that the country was extremely better off. For one thing he literally brought the country back together. There was a civil war and due to Lincoln's brilliant efforts the country was fixed, and brought together again. Also he is the reason that there is no more slavery. If you take Lincoln out of the equation you might not end slavery for a while. Lincoln is the reason that the civil war ended and he is the reason that today we live in the United states rather then the Confederate states. For that reason I say that Lincoln is the most important president in American history.
